Summary: A Pack Prep Technician must be able to perform procedures that effectively contribute to proper cleaning, sterilization and set up of the surgical suites, instruments and power tools. This technician must also be able to effectively assist in the general cleaning and stocking of the hospital as well as providing assistance to the doctor or technician when needed.

While under the supervision of the Technical supervisor or a Veterinary Technician, the Pack Prep Technician must be able to perform accurately and effectively the following routine duties including, but not limited to:

Clean and organize the pack prep room
Properly clean all surgical instruments and power tools
Properly sterilize all surgical instruments using auto clave and gas sterilization techniques
Proper rotation of sterile packs
Properly prepare all instrument packs
Set up surgical suites based on the surgery schedule for the day or with the
   guidance of the surgery technician when changes in the schedule occur

Properly clean and disinfect surgical suites
Properly clean all surgery monitors and equipment
Timely turnover of all surgery laundry
Perform proper maintenance on auto claves and gas sterilizer
Inventory of all surgery supplies needed (disposable, miscellaneous,
   and orthopedic implants) provided to the lead surgery technician

Daily stocking of the surgery suites
Assist with the preparation of the surgical patient
Clean and organize patient prep area as needed
Assist technicians when needed

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully pack prep technicians should have
knowledge of Word Processing software. It will also be necessary to become proficient
in the use of the practice management software (ImproMed Infinity).


Other Skills and Abilities: Must have excellent communication and organization
skills. Attention to detail and the ability to work independently is very important.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative

While performing the duties of this job, an employee is frequently required to
stand, walk, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms, have vision ability,
and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25
pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to
fractious animals. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne
particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
