What to Expect (Surgery)

Your Initial Visit

Every patient examined by the surgical service receives a 1-hour initial consultation with the surgical specialist. A comprehensive physical examination is performed, diagnostic and treatment options are then explained, and all client questions are answered.

Day of Surgery

All scheduled surgeries receive a complete pre-surgical evaluation and work-up. A customized anesthetic protocol is developed for each patient. State-of-the-art intra-operative monitoring including EKG, pulse oximetry, end-tidal CO2, blood pressure, and assisted ventilation is used in every surgery. Care is taken to control any pain or discomfort before, during and after surgery. Comprehensive pain management plans include injectable, constant infusion, epidural, local anesthetic, and transdermal pain medications.

Day of Discharge

A discharge appointment is scheduled to fully review the necessary care instructions with the owner and answer any question. Detailed printed instructions are sent home with each patient as a reference for at-home care. Full details of each case are provided to the primary veterinarian to ensure continuity of care and to facilitate all necessary follow-up.
